Telemedicine
What is telemedicine? Telemedicine is the use of computers, cameras, and telephone wires to connect you with a health care provided located at a different facility.
Why use telemedicine? You can see a medical specialist without driving many hours or miles to a different medical facility. The doctor "comes to see you".
Who can be seen by a telemedicine specialist? Anyone who is referred by their own health care provider or by a health care professional at Saltville Medical Center.
Who do I see? You will be connected with a specialist from the University of Virginia Health Care System.
What happens after the consultation? Once the consultation is complete, the specialist will send a diagnosis and treatment plan to your own health care provider. Follow-up can be through your own doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant and when needed the specialist can be consulted.
Are you a diabetic patient in need of an eye exam? If you are diabetic and can't afford a visit to an eye doctor, we may have a solution for you. Saltville Medical Center can take pictures of your eyes with our retinoscope. These pictures can then be sent to an ophthalmologist for evaluation without the additional charge of an office exam.
