SVCHS to Host Third Annual Recovery Walk Across Southwest Virginia

September 28 event will raise awareness, reduce stigma and support individuals and families affected by substance use disorder.

Meadowview, Va. (September 17, 2026) – Southwest Virginia Community Health Systems’ (SVCHS’) New Day Recovery Program will host the Third Annual Recovery Walk on Monday, September 28, 2026, across three Southwest Virginia communities — Bristol, Saltville and Tazewell — as part of National Recovery Month. This free regional event will bring together individuals in recovery, community members, healthcare professionals, local organizations and advocates to raise awareness, reduce stigma and strengthen support for those impacted by substance use disorder. 

Recovery Walk Event Times and Locations | Monday, September 28, 2026

  • Tazewell: 12–3 p.m. at Lincolnshire Park, 3119 Riverside Drive
  • Saltville: 12–3 p.m. at Saltville Town Stage, 217 Palmer Avenue
  • Bristol: 1–4 p.m. at Cumberland Square Park, 200 Lee Street 

“Recovery from substance use disorder is possible,” said New Day Recovery Behavioral Health Manager, Melissa Doane-Williams. “We see that reality every day through the individuals and families we serve. Our annual Recovery Walk gives us the opportunity to celebrate those stories, bring communities together in support of recovery, and raise awareness that hope and healing are possible for everyone.”

New Day Recovery provides compassionate, evidence-based care that supports long-term wellness and improved health outcomes for individuals and families throughout Southwest Virginia. Through integrated medical and behavioral healthcare services — including individual and group therapy options, medication-assisted treatment, care management and family support — the program takes a whole-person approach to recovery. 

The Recovery Walk advances SVCHS’s commitment to expanding access to compassionate, coordinated care throughout Southwest Virginia while increasing awareness and community support for recovery. Participation is free and open to the public.
