Southwest Virginia Community Health Systems’ Megan Doane Named 2025 Staff Member of the Year

Southwest Virginia Community Health Systems (SVCHS) is proud to announce that Megan Doane, Community of Hope Coordinator, has been named the 2025 Staff Member of the Year by the Virginia Community Health Association (VCHA). This prestigious recognition honors Megan’s outstanding dedication, compassion, and leadership in advancing behavioral health and recovery services across the region.

The VCHA Staff Member of the Year Award celebrates the invaluable contributions of non-medical staff working within Virginia’s community health centers. Each year, the award honors one individual who demonstrates extraordinary dedication to ensuring that patients receive high-quality, compassionate care while fostering positive relationships with patients, families, and fellow staff members. Nominations are submitted by health centers across the state, with the winner announced at the VCHA Annual Membership Meeting and Conference Awards Breakfast, held this year on September 25, 2025, in Roanoke, Virginia.

Megan began her career with SVCHS in June 2019 as a Behavioral Health Care Manager (BHCM), where she quickly established herself as a trusted and empathetic professional committed to improving patients’ behavioral health outcomes. Her ability to anticipate needs, streamline processes, and build strong relationships with patients and colleagues alike made her an invaluable member of the behavioral health team.

In 2020, Megan transitioned into the New Day Recovery program, working directly with individuals navigating substance use disorders. She brought a compassionate, nonjudgmental approach to care, helping patients set and achieve recovery goals while fostering trust and accountability. Her commitment to her patients and her professional growth led her to become a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC), expanding her role to include group and individual counseling, assessments, and treatment planning.

When SVCHS received two significant grants in 2024 to expand substance use disorder recovery services, Megan was selected to lead the new Community of Hope program. As Coordinator, she has played an instrumental role in developing the program from concept to reality—building referral networks with community partners, launching recovery and transportation services, and leading the Behavioral Health Grants Committee in achieving its goals. Under her leadership, the program has strengthened access to care for underserved individuals seeking recovery and stability in their lives.

“Megan is the definition of a team player,” said Marcy Rosenbaum, Behavioral Health and NDR Director at SVCHS. “She will do whatever it takes to accomplish a goal—whether that means leading recovery groups, managing logistics, transporting patients, or helping staff navigate challenges. Her dedication, work ethic, and compassion inspire everyone around her.”

Megan’s colleagues describe her as dependable, proactive, and tireless in her efforts to serve patients and support her team. Her recent week exemplified that spirit—balancing leadership meetings, community outreach, and direct patient support while also being a devoted mother.

“Megan is the type of employee who gets things done before you even ask,” Rosenbaum added. “She anticipates what needs to be done and makes it happen. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of being named Staff Member of the Year.”

Megan’s unwavering commitment to helping others, her leadership within the Community of Hope program, and her ability to turn vision into action embody the mission of Southwest Virginia Community Health Systems—to provide compassionate, comprehensive care to all, regardless of circumstance
